Problem getting setup
by Nick Webb - Thursday, 19 June 2014, 3:56 PM

Hi guys,

I'm having a problem getting going with this.

I've installed node and git and I've installed adapt-cli and grunt-cli

But when I follow the instructions for creating a course I keep getting an error, something along the lines of:

'Failed to execute "git ls-remote --tags --heads git://github.com/adaptlearning/adapt-contrib-gmcq.git" exit code of #128'

I'm running the command line as an admin on Window 7 64-Bit

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks,

Nick

Hi Nick

It looks a little like Git has not been installed in the system path.

Are you able to run 'git ls-remote --tags --heads git://github.com/adaptlearning/adapt-contrib-gmcq.git' from a command prompt?

Cheers

Dan

Thanks Dan,

Turns out it was a problem with the University's firewall. All sorted now though.

Kind regards,

Nick

Hi

I too am having a problem getting started.

Either the installation fails or when it does it crashes when I try to create a course.

I assume using a mac is ok?

Not sure what else the issue could be - any help would be great.

Regards

Fiona

Hi Fiona

By crashes - do you mean that your whole mac freezes - or just Adapt?

The people on here are great at solving problems, but it's good to give them as much info as possible - maybe by saying what stage you got up to, listing any error messages, or by providing a screenshot of the grunt window.

Best,

Nicola

Hi Nicola

I am trying to create a course with

adapt create course

but get the following error message:

Writing location.js file
Done. Phantomjs binary available at /Users/we/las/node_modules/karma-phantomjs-launcher/node_modules/phantomjs/lib/phantom/bin/phantomjs
installing adapt dependencies
Oh dear, something went wrong. I'm terribly sorry. Arguments to path.join must be strings

Can you help?

I think this is an open issue with Mac right now... There have been a couple of reports this week.

Hi Fiona,

I had exactly the same problem on my personal Mac. I am planning to get the more deeply technical guys to help with that and document the results. It might take me until next week to do so but I have alerted the core team to the issues with set-up tasks today. I think there is a pattern of issues worth addressing.
