I'd suggest adding a "Useful tips for development" page on the wiki to gather tips such as these together. I haven't delved much into development beyond dabbling but I think gathering some of the useful forum tips such as this, as well as the other post with ogg encoding options and other such things together would have a lot of value to help potential developers.
