As the developer of the adapt-intro extension I can confirm that it doesn't let you click on the actual icons which is certainly a bit of a drawback.

If you are comfortable writing JS you could fork the extension and add calls to the Adapt API to do things whenever you reach a certain point e.g Adapt.trigger('drawer:open');

Otherwise other solutions I've seen include using an landing page that shows elements of Adapt and explains what they do. Either in a component like the Narrative or using video.
