course physical location

Hello everyone,

I am totally green at using Adapt learning as I just installed the authoring tool and edited a few pages with it. So please forgive me if my question sounds a bit basic.

I would like to know if Adapt saves my course physically on my computer or on a server somewhere as I would like to access some configuration files such as language and so forth.

Thanks in advance

Michel

Hi Michel, others may have more detailed information, but I can tell you that the course is saved on your computer, not anywhere online.

If you intend on access files outside of the authoring tool for a course you created using the authoring tool, the only option there is to "Export source code" and then edit the files as if you were using Adapt framework without the authoring tool. This allows more flexibility (but knowledge).

You basically choose to either A) create/edit courses using the authoring tool, or B) create/edit courses without the authoring tool, which is more hands on and code oriented.

For localisation, I don't think that the authoring tool has any feature to help with that (yet). But using the adapt framework without the authoring tool does have an import/export feature to get at text and your team can manually translated content. Look here for more info on that: https://github.com/adaptlearning/adapt_framework/wiki/Course-Localisation

Thank you very much for this precious information Scott.

while we are at it. How would one change the default language of a course (buttons labeling and so forth) ? would that be done from the authoring tool or the framework?

Is there a way to change the language all at once from a dictionary or do we have to change each label individually?

thanks again

Michel

With one or two exceptions (media player tooltips, SCORM error messages) you can change all the course text/labels using either the authoring tool or the framework.

However, if you want to create a course that works in more than one language you'll want to read this.
