Authoring tool v0.4.0 released
by Tom Taylor - Wednesday, 18 October 2017, 9:17 AM

Morning all,

The core team are happy to announce that v0.4.0 of the authoring tool is now ready to use! A big thanks to everyone involved in the development and testing of this release.

The highlights include:

  • A major refactor of the front-end code to improve stability, as well as making future development quicker and easier.
  • Completely overhauled install/upgrade scripts which now allow upgrading and downgrading of both the server and the framework
  • A whole host of minor bug fixes and improvements

You can read full details in the CHANGELOG.md

A word on upgrading

As a part of the install/update script changes, we're now able to lock each release of the authoring tool to a specific framework release. This allows us to ensure that it's not possible to upgrade to a framework version that is incompatible with the server.

For this reason, we recommend that you upgrade to v0.4.0 prior to v3.0.0 of the framework being released to avoid any accidental upgrades.

A lot of great updates, and the whole thing feels more finished.

But on the roadmap for the AT, the import/export was scheduled for this release.
Is this still in development?

Absolutely. A lot of the internal work will make things like import and export easier to work on. There is definately movement on this.

Hi Lars,

Thanks for the positive feedback!

Well spotted re: import/export. The explanation for this is simply that we finished the 'refactor' first. As Paul mentioned, this is still very much in-development, and we expect that it will be the headline of the next minor (i.e. 0.x.0) release, hopefully arriving before the end of the year.

Hi,

two quick points:

  • the Status page is still referring to 0.3.0, should that be updated?
  • the Download page still mentions Vagrant prominently ("The simplest way to get the Adapt authoring tool running on your computer is to use an application called Vagrant to create a virtual platform that acts as a web server"), which is no longer supported according to the changelog.

Thanks for your work, great project!
