Best upgrade steps for a really old version?
by Amy Groves - Friday, 24 July 2020, 8:59 PM

We have moved to some fancy new Cloud storage and want to upgrade Adapt. We are running a super old version -- 2.2.5. And of course lots of plugins installed and plenty of courses that we don't want to break. In what order should we do the upgrade tasks? Adapt first, or plugins first? Any advice or doc appreciated. TIA!

Hi,

are you using some costum plugins?

If so, it is better to check the custom plugins first, if they are still compatible with the version you want to upgrate to. If you have used contrib plugins, you can upgrade directly.

Thanks! We'll do that.

It's very likely things will break or perform differently between both the contrib plugins and the custom, plus themes and menus.

If you've got a big course that uses all the plugins you like using across all (or you can throw one together) it may be helpful to do a preliminary export of this master course from the old => import to the new, assuming you've got access to both instances concurrently.

This process will help you understand and document what needs to be replaced and tested once all courses come across.
