New here. Ready to get involved
by Rob sutcliffe - Tuesday, 24 March 2015, 2:27 PM

I've been working on something similar on my own since about a year ago.

I built a responsive scorm compliant piece that gets all the data from an xml sheet that could be opened in Excel then I started again as I wanted to build it in AngularJS and get the data from google docs.

It's a shame to waste it all but looks like there is a keen team here so I'm happy to move my efforts over here :)

Look forward to working with you all,

Rob

Hi Rob,

Welcome to the project, plenty going on in here. When you have the time please have a look at the Framework https://github.com/adaptlearning/adapt_framework and the Authoring Tool project https://github.com/adaptlearning/adapt_authoring.

Documentation is (ahem!) light so please ask plenty questions. Chuck is working on the documentation so that should become less of an issue as he works his magic on it.

Let us know where you skills lie and what you are interested in and we will get you something to do from our long list.

Thanks,

Mark.

Looking forward to working with you,

Sven

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

I'll take a look around later when I have a little time.
I've built an elearning authoring tool before for a company I used to work at. It was primarily for internal developers in India to produce html elearning (that I also developer). Since leaving the company they are working on making it a commercial product (http://www.growthengineering.co.uk/genie-content-authoring-tool/) I did user testing and built an interface where elearning could be updated by dragging images in place, double clicking text etc... All built with Javascript (Jquery) and PHP (Codeigniter).

I'd say my strengths are a little more with front end design and javascript interactions. I worked in elearning three years and I was a teacher for three years so know a bit about learner psychology too.

Essentially in short, I'm a jack of all trades :) but I'd like to master UI design and front end development.
So anything I can do to improve the look and interactions I'd be happy to help with.

Hi Rob,

If you need help with setting any of this up please ask.

If you are interested in the UI we have room for improvement. We are currently reviewing Michael Palmers designs with a view to incorporating his proposed changes into the front end of the Authoring tool.

So with that in mind try installing the Authoring Tool and when you are done with that log into it and take a look around. When you are ready post back here and we'll get you a task to work on.

There will be plenty help and guidance along the way.

Mark.

Hi Rob,

We've recently begun working on some new install instructions for the authoring tool. I've got a sparse set for developers (https://github.com/chucklorenz/demo-wiki/wiki/Developer's-Install) and more verbose set for folks who are less experienced (https://github.com/chucklorenz/demo-wiki/wiki). They are WIP, but may be helpful. Would love feedback if you end up referring to them.

Fantastic. I'll take a look at the authoring tool design first then. So Michael and yourself are reviewing the design?

I'll spend some time checking it out and collecting my thoughts and let you know when I'm done.
