Adapt framework - feature requests
by Lucy Hodge - Monday, 10 August 2015, 11:14 AM

Hi all,

With the v2.0.0 framework release behind us, we're working to update our roadmap for future developments.

In line with our vision statement, we’re inviting the community to help shape the future of Adapt. Over the next four weeks (10/08/2015 – 06/09/2015), we encourage everyone to indicate which features you'd like to see in future releases of the Adapt framework up to v3.0.0. We’ll use this feedback to help us draw up our roadmap (please note that these suggestions should be for the framework, not the authoring tool).

There are two simple ways in which you can do this:

  1. Add your own feature suggestions to JIRA. To make sure that everyone can find these quickly and easily, remember to add the pre-made ‘feature-request’ label when you create your issue.
  2. Vote for pre-existing feature requests. Take a look at the feature request list and decide which are most important to you.

To ensure your feature suggestion is considered for the updated roadmap, please submit it or cast your vote by 6 September 2015 so that planning can commence from w/c 7 September 2015

We look forward to receiving your feature suggestions!

Lucy

A quick reminder that you've got a fortnight left for your suggestions to be considered for the roadmap - we really value your input.

Hi Lucy,

Posting in my capacity as a Kineo employee rather than as framework design lead.

The following plugins are in our repo now but Kineo are in the process of updating these plugins to ensure they work with V2.0. We’ll announce when this work is complete. I'm sharing this in case there is anything on the list which others may request on the roadmap.

Name

Description

Hot grid

Similar to a hot graphic but rather than selecting icons you select an image. There are multiple clickable images arranged within a grid.

Article reveal

Allows for an article to be collapsed or expanded via the selection of a button.

Hotspot menu

A menu where icons can be positioned over an image. Upon selection of an icon, a pop-up is displayed revealing both description text and a start button.

Cover flow menu

As seen in the demonstration of the guided revision functionality.

Menu controller

Allows a single course to have more than one menu type within it.

Start page

Allows a short page to displayed before the menu.

Graphical background switcher

Allows article background to be replaced with new image as learner scrolls through the page.

Keep scroll position

Returns learner to same point on a page should they be navigating back from a different location.

Page incomplete prompt

Triggers a prompt when the learner selects the menu button on an incomplete page which informs them that they haven’t seen all content.

Pin Point Question

Similar to graphical MCQ however the learner needs to select a region(s) on a graphic rather than individual images before submitting answers.

Timed sequence question

An image is presented to the learner for a pre-determined period of time and the learner is asked to make a snap judgement. This is repeated until completion. The number of images and the time each is presented is configurable.

Intro text toggle

Allows a text overview to be loaded in place of the component upon page load. This text can be toggled out to reveal the component upon the selection of an icon.

The following are on Kineo’s internal development roadmap and again, we will be making these available to the community in due course.

Name

Description

Block Slider

A configurable block slider that can also be configured to offer functionality similar to narrative and hot graphic.

Guided revision

As previously .

Learner Dashboard

Provides overview of learners performance in a course – for example, scores in diffuse assessments. See the Asada course for implementation of similar functionality.

Open Badges

Award an open badge upon achieving pre-determined success criteria.

Enhanced nav functionality

Extension to the course navigation functionality such as  footers to allow back and next functionality

Kineo would like to see the following on the roadmap:

  • Templated themes
  • Tin Can API
  • Improved multi-language support
  • Some form of learner support tool which allows for the adding of specific locations to a course favourite list/the ability to access a glossary feature and a search facility (we’ve done work on this and can the make the code available)
  • Diagnostic
  • Role selector

Hi Paul,

Those plugins sound great.  I'm looking forward to seeing them.

Will they work in the authoring tool?

Thanks,

Brian

Hi Brian,

I don't see why not with the appropriate schema in place.

As I mention, the first 12 are already done and we're just in the process of checking compatibility with V2.0. If you'd like a preview they are freely available in the CGK github

Thanks,

Paul

Hi all

I've been through jira and +1 in the comments for the new features/feature enhancements that DeltaNet have a priority interest in, other areas we would like to see developed are listed below:

Existing features:

Gamification – We'd like to see the stars component that allows you to earn stars and have them count up on the menu and/or maybe the navigation bar feature developed further.

Hot graphic – more guidance on how to use this component effectively, i've seen a few posts which suggest that you can use any image as the pins rather than have a pin directly but we struggled when wanting to use chevrons as pins.

The Learner Assistant extension (e.g. assessment revision guide) - full v2 compatibility.

The Frame by frame animation component - full v2 compatibility

New features:

Question components – allow different feedback for each answer given in single answers; for example if a scenario question had three answers options, none of which are right or wrong per se you would be able to target specific feedback for each answer i.e. Which fire extinguisher would you use to put our an electrical fire? Water / CO2 or Powder - Water is a definite no, CO2 is the best option but Powder can be used but may damage the equipment. This could also be linked to branching scenarios as well.

Question components - linking to what content is then viewable, i.e. if you answer a question correctly you see one bit of content but if incorrect you see additional content.

Locational hot graphic – a hot graphic where you can select things in a diagram and it will highlight the specific area. For example on a map you could select UK and the whole of that area highlights, with then variables as to whether you get a mini label, zoom in, pop up window etc. Would be good to have this as a question feature too so you could select location on the map that’s the correct answer and it highlights that region (or on a diagram the correct part of the pie chart/bar chart/process flow etc.)
